The Odisha Sahitya Akademi, established by the Odisha Government in 1957, with the aim to support and promote the Odia language, literature and culture. The objectives of the akademi include maintaining standards and integrity in Odia literature encouraging collaboration for event organization preserving the legacies of notable figures in the Odia language safeguarding manuscripts and actively participating in activities like compilation, editing, publishing and distribution. To broaden its reach and engage in project implementation the Akademi was officially registered under the Societies Act of 1860 with the registration number 5884/84 1970 71.
The Akademi is committed to advance Odia literature through initiatives that align with the principles and decisions set forth by its governing body. These initiatives include organizing events such as seminars and workshops for writers as well as hosting festivals focused on storytelling and poetry performances.
Additionally, the Akademi also grants several prestigious awards, such as the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award, which recognizes significant contributions to Odia literature, and the Atibadi Jagannath Das Award, honoring literary figures for their lifetime achievements. It also acknowledges writers with the Saraswat memento and organizes lectures during anniversaries and memorial events to pay tribute to influential personalities in Odia literature.

The novel provides a detailed reflection of the plot, characterization, and conflicts. The origin of the Odia novel is derived from the missionary literature of the mid-nineteenth century.
The presence of stories and narratives in the poetic tradition of Oriya literature has certainly existed for a longer period. Later on, these elements evolved into long narrative with independent expression, linguistic structure, and emotional depth.
Poetry is the earliest form of Odia Literature. Over time, poetry has undergone various transformations, adapting to different stages of development while maintaining its essence. Throughout the ages, poetry has remained dynamic and evolving.

The creator of Odia literature and whose Saraswat creation has enriched our language, literature and culture. Similarly, celebrating the birth anniversary of the famous Saraswat talent Pragya Narasimha on his holy birth anniversary and celebrating Shraddhasav on his great journey is one of the major moral responsibilities of the Akademi. Dedicated to the tradition of worship, the Odisha Sahitya Akademi has been celebrating the birth anniversary/shraddhasav of the Saraswat Bindhanis of the Odia language for many years. This number has now reached 63. It is a good thing for Odia culture that the birth anniversary/shraddhasav of about a hundred Barputras is being celebrated in the state on behalf of the Akademi and with the support of the Akademi. The Akademi has been organizing this program since 1961 to celebrate the achievements of the founders of Odia language, literature, culture and nationalism through their wisdom, knowledge and experience. It has recently gained fame in the literary world as a special honor named \\\'Saraswat Samvardhana\\\'. The great and unique tradition of the Odia nation is worship. This nation shows due respect to its ancestors. It pays homage from the heart. And it pays humble homage to their immortal memory, this is the glorious tradition of our culture. Similarly, the age-old Saraswat Sadhaks, whose talented pens, shining with their own brilliance, have filled Odia literature with intelligence, are the charioteers of this nation, this language, this culture, the pathfinders of this literature. The mentality of those talented Saraswat Sadhaks, who are old in age, experienced in experience, and matured in the twilight of life, is deeply intertwined with our language. The Akademi has been observing this great tradition of worship of the Odia nation as its highest moral duty by presenting the Saraswat Sampadhana to the unique Saraswat Sadhaks/Sadhikas every year, such as those whose pens have long been the source of Odia literature and whose writings have made an indelible contribution to Odia culture and whose writings have enlivened the mantra of nationalism. From 1961 to 2022, more than six hundred senior Sadhaks/Sadhikas have been presented with the Saraswat Sampadhana and honored by the Akademi. The honored Sadhaks-Sadhikas are given a copper-plated plaque and a woolen shawl. For many years, there was no system of providing financial assistance to the honored talents. Later, they are also being given financial assistance along with other incentives. Currently, this amount is Rs. 1 lakh.
Odisha Sahitya Akademi has set a goal to involve the youth in the art of Odia language, literature and culture. As a part of this scheme, since 1994-95, the State Youth Council has been awarding young writers up to the age of thirty-five years in two categories, namely poetry and prose literature. The award-winning manuscripts of the young writers who have won the award with the award amount are being published and disseminated by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi. In this order, from 1994-95 to 2010-11, the following books of young writers have been added to the Akademi\\\'s publications, helping to raise the standard of its publishing department. In addition, the Academy has recently become a model institution for young writers and has been able to gain popularity.
The Odisha Sahitya Akademi Awards are given every year to the creators of high-quality works considered the best in various fields of Odia language and literature, and the Akademi has been providing recognition and encouragement to those unique creators of literature since the inception of the Akademi. The Akademi Awards, along with being accepted as one of the major duties of the Odisha Sahitya Akademi, have also gained recognition as the highest honorary award of Odia literature among the lovers of Odia literature in the country and abroad. The Akademi authorities have been making efforts since the day of the Akademi\\\'s establishment to ensure that the Akademi Awards can play as important a role in the development of Odia literature as possible.
In the last decade of the 15th century, the sage, musician and renowned poet Goswami Jagannath Das was born in Kapileshwarpur, a remote place from Puri. He used to visit the holy place and recite the Puranas and the self-written \\\'Language Bhagavata\\\' every evening near Shweta Ganesha in the courtyard of the Sri Jagannath Temple, captivating the assembled devotees. The way in which he transformed the Sanskrit Shrimad Bhagavata composed by Vyasadev in Odia into a new alphabet with the commentary of Shridhar Swami, creating a new spiritual vibration in the soul of the Odia people, is a glorious chapter in the history of Odia literature and culture. Vaishnavite Shiromani Shri Chaitanya, impressed by the incomparable spiritual practice of the young astrologer Jagannath Das, his devotion to Shri Jagannath, his pure life and supernatural talent, bestowed upon him the title of \\\'Atibadi\\\' with emotional and deep emotion. After Shudra Muni Sarala Das, Atibadi Jagannath Das was one of the most prominent and glorious figures in the history of the Odia nation in terms of strengthening and awakening the cultural consciousness, social and emotional unity. Although the ‘Bhagwat Tungi’ built in the urban areas of Odisha has become grey and deserted in the changing life cycle, in order to revive his noble memory, the Odisha Sahitya Akademi has been awarding the highest literary award ‘Atibadi Jagannath Das Award’ since 1993, considering the overall creative output of Odisha’s senior and prominent writers. So far, the Atibadi Jagannath Das Award has been awarded by the Akademi as the highest formal recognition to 28 senior writers for their significant contribution to Odia literature. Since the beginning, for the past few years, the awardee has been given a copper plaque, a woolen shawl and a prize money of twenty-five thousand rupees as a standard. Later, since 2003, the Atibadi Award has been increased to fifty thousand and since 2014, the Culture Department has issued letter number 4628/T.C. Whereas it was increased to one lakh rupees as on 22.7.2014, the present amount has been increased to five lakh rupees as per the letter number 6894/OLL and C of the State Government dated 14.12.2020. Till 2020, the following 28 distinguished literary figures have received the prestigious Jagannath Das Award.
