About Odisha Sahitya Akademi

The Odisha Sahitya Akademi, established by the Odisha Government in 1957, with the aim to support and promote the Odia language, literature and culture. The objectives of the akademi include maintaining standards and integrity in Odia literature encouraging collaboration for event organization preserving the legacies of notable figures in the Odia language safeguarding manuscripts and actively participating in activities like compilation, editing, publishing and distribution. To broaden its reach and engage in project implementation the Akademi was officially registered under the Societies Act of 1860 with the registration number 5884/84 1970 71.

The Akademi is committed to advance Odia literature through initiatives that align with the principles and decisions set forth by its governing body. These initiatives include organizing events such as seminars and workshops for writers as well as hosting festivals focused on storytelling and poetry performances.

Additionally, the Akademi also grants several prestigious awards, such as the Odisha Sahitya Akademi Award, which recognizes significant contributions to Odia literature, and the Atibadi Jagannath Das Award, honoring literary figures for their lifetime achievements. It also acknowledges writers with the Saraswat memento and organizes lectures during anniversaries and memorial events to pay tribute to influential personalities in Odia literature.
